Top and Tail

Notes

This uses ideas from Chris Turner's dance "Sussex Cottage", but extends 'top four do something, then bottom four do the same' to the whole dance.

3 couple longways.

Any 32 bar jig or reel.

Here is an appropriate track which is at 104bpm. Note that the final figure (B2) can be challenging to complete tidily to fast music.

A1 1‑41st couple lead down past 2nd couple, cast away from each other, they each go out between the two people on their side of the dance, and come up the outside to original places;
5‑81st and 2nd couples (that is 'the top four') back-to-back their partners.
A2 1‑43rd couple lead up past 2nd couple, cast away from each other, go out between the two people on their side of the dance, and go down the outside to original places;
5‑82nd and 3rd couples (that is 'the bottom four') back-to-back their partners.
B1 1‑41st and 2nd couples right-hand star;
5‑82nd and 3rd couple left-hand star.
B2 1‑2Top two couples (1s & 2s) circle left half way,
3‑4same two couples half two-hand turn partner;
5‑6Bottom two couples (1s & 3s) circle left half way,
7‑8same two couples half two-hand turn partner to progressed places (2-3-1).
